Load Rite’s 14F1000WT:
Our best seller for Sunfish, Melges 14, Laser and rack trailers
Load Rite continues to make a better sailboat trailer!
Just Google “torsion bar” versus “leaf spring” to see why others prefer them.
Why the switch from leaf springs?
Our Load Rite rep says the torsion bar axles on their big trailers offers such better wear and handling that they decided to offer it on their smaller 14F1000WT trailers as well.
How they are made
The image the right shows the hard rubber chords that fit around the axle shaft. The axle and rubber chords are dipped into liquid nitrogen, shrinking them enough to be inserted into the square cross axle. Once it is returned to temperatures you would find on Earth, it has created a shock absorbing unit that will last as long as leaf springs.
Peace and Quiet
The two main reasons to be happy you have a torsion bar trailer: We have tried them out and agree, they don’t rattle when the trailer is empty at road speed, and they don’t have the bounce and bang we all have experienced while hauling with leaf springs.
